In my voice teaching practice, I work with many local singer/songwriters to develop their voices, but we invariably talk the business of music from time to time and the many changes that are occurring. One band, a duo, from Marin County in California has taken this truly to heart, and while making music that they themselves love, have been able to achieve what so many musicians look to do, which is make a living making the music they want to make. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting Pomplamoose personally, but this interview gives a great insight into their attitude towards the current situation in the music business. As I’ve told my own clients time and again, with the availability of extremely high quality, inexpensive (relatively) recording equipment and the decentralization of music distribution, there has never been a better time to be an independent artist.
