New Video – A Brief Word on Talent

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

I feel like I’m going out a little on a limb here, discussing talent. Talent as a concept that through my years of training has generated different reactions from different teachers I’ve studied with. From those that were offended to suggest that they were talented, to those who took as a compliment, but didn’t give it terrible weight, I’ve come to think of talent as something we create with constructive criticisms and disciplined practice. I’m certainly open to discussion about it, have a look/listen and tell me your thoughts. Thanks as always for watching!

New Warm Ups for Baritones and Sopranos and a new Series!

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

Warm Up videos on youtube seem to be really on demand. I easily get more requests for these than almost any other vocal instruction request. A listener requested that I do my ‘Daily Warm Up for Male Voices’ video for Baritone, and I figured I might as well include female vocal range as well. So this week those two were released, you can find them below. Additionally, I wanted to start a new series of video that was closer to actual singing, with the complexities that words and phrases bring to it. That gave rise to ‘How to Sing a Lyric Phrase Number 1′ within which I made up a silly word combination and discuss the vowel consonant attributes. A good start to what I believe is going to be a useful service. Enjoy!

New Tenor Warmup Video Now Live!

Wednesday, March 12th, 2014

By request! A listener wrote in requesting a video they could use as a daily warmup. I felt inclined to be as comprehensive as I could be in a self imposed limit of ten to fifteen minutes. I ended up doing seventeen, which I thought was pretty good. Anyway, here it is for your use. Enjoy!

New High Range Vocal Technique Videos

Monday, March 10th, 2014

I’ve been really fortunate to get tons of feedback on the videos on youtube as well as requests for specific techniques. A listener wrote in wanting videos to work on smoothing the transition through his mixed voice area. I was more than happy to oblige, but thought I should do as full featured offering as possible, so what you have are three videos laying out the technique for singing above the break for a male tenor voice. I’ve broken it down into three areas conceptually:

Access and Awareness
Practice and Preparation

I hope you enjoy them!

Three New Videos Online studying the interval of a Third

Tuesday, March 4th, 2014

I admit it, I’ve been feeling really inspired to get more and more videos together for youtube. In addition to answering questions and posting video responses, I am continuing the series I began studying different intervals and exercises to work on them. The new release comes in the form of three videos for different vocal ranges, and they primarily feature an exercise I wrote that goes through several vowel changes and uses all but one note of each major scale. I hope you enjoy it! As always, if you have questions or want something specific addressed, get in touch via a message on youtube or send an email through my website. The contact form is on most pages!

New Video Online!

Sunday, March 2nd, 2014

One of my subscribers on Youtube had a really amazing question that covered a ton of voice topics, and so I’ve begun addressing them little by little. This video is a fun, melodic pattern that you can use for tone developement, endurance, or even a gentle warm up. Enjoy!
